Ornamental Horticulture

Photos by J. McConnell from Color Atlas of Common Weeds of Guam

Horticulture is the science and art of propagating fruits, vegetables, flowers, and ornamental plants. In addition to standard practices, recent knowledge of genetics, plant physiology, biochemistry, ecology, plant pathology, molecular biology, and soils have been incorporated to studies in this lab and in the field of research.

Ornamental horticulture includes the cultivation of trees, flowers and plants for their form and beauty. Arborists, nurseries, greenhouses, florists, garden centers, landscapers, and golf course superintendents depend on research conducted by scientists in the field.
